The story behind OnlineDining.com.au is an equally selfish and selfless one. In 2005 as a growing family with a young child and another on the way, convenience and time saving had become an increased priority. With that in mind, we (Dirk & Melissa Horton, business owners and founders) went in search of convenient dining alternatives. As is the modern way, we "Googled" in search of convenient food options, looking for local and up to date information, menus, photos etc from local dining venues. The search was fruitless with not much local content and the larger national alternatives offering very little personalised content from venues in Metro areas. Even planning for a brief holiday we looked for options in other areas without success. As a Web Designer, Dirk got to work that evening researching online and after much frustration immediately began planning and development for our home built solution - OnlineDining.com.au. Now 7 years on, the site has been developed to a highly professional and interactive level for both diners and venues, with our attention constantly on how to improve the experience for both. The site now boasts approximately 4,000 listings in Qld and approximately 35,000 Queensland diners a month scouring through finding their ideal dining solution and an estimated 1.5 million users using the site to date. As the site has been run purely for the diners benefit, the usual corporate gains have been ignored, with the focus on what diners want from venues and what the venues can offer diners. With the diner focus a major area, interaction and information from diners about their local dining scene has always been invited and in recent times this area has been dramatically expanded. As more and more venues continue to offer more and more information to diners the experience improves daily, as does our satisfaction of filling this need for diners and venues.
