Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Last updated:

Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) to add an extra layer of security to your NeverBounce account. Two-factor authentication provides greater security by requiring two forms of identification during login: your login credentials, and a unique passcode generated by a 2FA app.

In this help document, learn how to:

  1. Set up and use 2FA with an authenticator app
  2. Set requirements for team members
  3. Login with 2FA enabled
  4. Disconnect two-factor authentication

Getting Started

Here are some steps to take before setting up 2FA on your NeverBounce account.

  • Download a 2FA app (Authy or Google Authenticator) to your mobile device. You can also download desktop versions of the authentication apps.
  • Save your NeverBounce backup code offline or on a separate device. You'll need the backup code to log in to NeverBounce if you ever lose, restore, or damage your mobile device.

Pro-tip: Are you already familiar with 2FA? If so, log in and visit the “Security Settings” page to set up your device and enable authentication.

How It Works

2FA requires two forms of identification to gain access to an online account. With 2FA enabled in your NeverBounce account, you’ll need your NeverBounce login credentials and a app-generated passcode to get into your account.

The passcode is generated from two numbers: a permanent one and a random one. The permanent, unique number is stored in NeverBounce and on your mobile device when you set up 2FA. NeverBounce and the authenticator app then use this code in combination with another constantly changing value to generate your temporary six-digit passcode that will be required to log in to NeverBounce. If the passcodes in NeverBounce and the authenticator app are the same, you're granted access to your account. Because the unique code that your authenticator app uses is stored on your mobile device, there isn't a way to generate a passcode without your device.

1. Setting Up 2FA

  • After logging into your account, click on the “Account” tab on the upper right side of the User Dashboard.
  • From the “Account” page, click on “Settings.”
  • From the “Settings” page, navigate to the “Security Settings” tab.
  • Under the “Two-Factor Authentication” heading, click on the “Turn on Two-Factor Authentication” button.
  • Using either the Google Authenticator or Authy authentication apps, scan the QR code to setup two factor authentication (2FA) for your account. The app will ask you to confirm the email address associated with your account.
  • The authentication app will then generate a 6-digit code. Type this code into the given field, then click the “Confirm Code” button.
  • Once confirmed, 2FA recovery codes will be generated. Save the following codes in a safe place like a password manager. Once you have saved the recovery codes in a safe place, click the “They’re in a safe place” button. If you would like new codes generated, click the “Generate New Recovery Codes” link and repeat this step.
  • 2FA will now be set up on your account!

2. Setting Up 2FA for Team Members

Team owners and admins can require all team members to set up 2FA from the Team Settings page!

  • After logging into your account, click on the “Account” tab on the upper right side of the User Dashboard.
  • From the “Account” page, click on “Settings.”
  • From the “Settings” page, navigate to the “Team Settings” tab.
  • Under the “Team Settings” heading, check the box “Require Two-Factor Authentication” for all team members,” then click the “Save” button.
  • Once saved, you should see a green banner confirming the change that reads “Your team settings have been updated!”

3. Logging in with 2FA Activated

After you set up your authenticator app and connect it to NeverBounce, you'll use it to generate a passcode each time you log in. To use a two-factor authentication app to log in to your account, follow these steps.

  1. Enter your NeverBounce username and password on the NeverBounce login screen, and click Log In.
  2. Launch your two-factor authentication app on your connected mobile device to generate your random, temporary passcode.
  3. Type the six-digit passcode into the passcode field in NeverBounce. Click “Authenticate.” You can also check the box “Remember this device” to prevent having to use 2FA the next time you log in to NeverBounce from the same device.

Troubleshooting tip: Make sure the time on your mobile device is automatically set. If your device is using manually set time, the new passcodes that generate every 30 seconds from your 2FA app and NeverBounce could be out of sync and result in a login error.

4. Disabling 2FA

  • After logging into your account, click on the “Account” tab on the upper right side of the User Dashboard.
  • From the “Account” page, click on “Settings.”
  • From the “Settings” page, navigate to the “Security Settings” tab.
  • Under the “Two-Factor Authentication” heading, click the red “Disable 2FA” button.
  • This will redirect you to a page asking “Do you want to disable 2FA?” Click the “Disable 2FA” to confirm. 2FA will now be disabled on your NeverBounce account.
