The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is a global investment banking, securities and investment management firm. It provides financial services to a substantial and diversified client base that includes corporations, financial institutions, governments and high-net-worth individuals. The company operates through four segments: Investment Banking, Institutional Client Services, Investing & Lending, and Investment Management. The Investment Banking segment provides a broad range of investment banking services to a diverse group of corporations, financial institutions, investment funds and governments. Its services include advisory assignments with respect to mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate defense activities, risk management, restructurings and spin-offs, and debt and equity underwriting of public offerings and private placements and derivative transactions. The Institutional Client Services segment facilitates client transactions and markets in fixed income, equity, currency and commodity products, primarily with institutional clients such as corporations, financial institutions, investment funds and governments. It also markets and clears client transactions on major stock, options and futures exchanges worldwide and provides financing, securities lending and prime brokerage services to institutional clients. The Investing & Lending segment invests in and originates loans to provide financing to clients. It makes investments, directly and indirectly through funds that the firm manages, in debt securities, loans, public and private equity securities, real estate, consolidated investment entities and power generation facilities. The Investment Management segment provides investment management services and offers investment products across all major asset classes to a diverse set of institutional and individual clients.
